How would you like to see this handled in the future? I understand where you're coming from and it makes sense. As a lot of our products are not aimed at Windows administrators, prompting during the installation for a UID probably isn't going to be the best solution. Do you think a script to change the UID located in the scripts directory may be a good idea? If you don't have root to the server, this could be a problem as well, though. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for all the feedback!

We have corrected the issue. We were able to change the UID's. It was more complicated as, for some reason, when we built node1 is created the group "nagcmd" like in XI.

I am able to admin linux just fine. I am not on the Linux team and they keep root access to themselves. I know how to change the UID's and admin permissions, mounts, etc..

My questions were more about "This should be more detailed in the documentation" as your installer creates the UID's without looking for any NIS or LDAP information before creating the nagios user. We can create the users and groups in LDAP and set the UID's but your installer is still going to do this locally. This can be confusing for some and add to lost backups when they are not aware of the underlying issues. The backup documentation does not mention NFS in particular and no mention of "You need to make sure of this before you...".

Not everyone who is going to use your product is going to be a Linux admin, or have the access they need. I am in the Middleware group. We handle all the service monitoring, log management, asset management, CMDB etc...

Also, since there was not specific documentation on the subject, I was unsure, as was the Linux team, what impact changing the UID's might have on Log Server.

Great, I'm glad to hear it's working.

I've seen your posts, you may know more about Linux than I do :). I was saying for the customer that has the product that isn't going to have that Linux team, or a guy that knows Linux on their team.

Judging by your feedback here, I think better documentation may be the answer here. This is something I can see to.

That's who we're trying to make it easier for. We're currently in the process of updating A LOT of documentation, and any feedback community members/customers can provide will help us immensely.

Let me know if you have any more feedback.

Thank you!
