Monitor HP Switches

Hi!

I am trying to monitor HP Switches, but I can't monitor the ports.

Anyone have any advice? I have multiple different HP Switches all around, but using the switch monitoring, I can't see any ports or port information.

Any cheap, available, no animals were hurt during this forum post- tips for me?

Are you sure you enter the proper community string?

there's a configuration wizard for switches? does that not work. I have Hp 2610 switches and I'm able to monitor port bandwidth using said wizard.

I have checked one or two switches. Both of them have the fantastic name of public as snmp-community.

Do I know which version it is? I have tried one or two

I find its best to make sure the credentials are correct at the command line before using the wizard. At the command line just do an SNMP walk against the switch:

snmpwalk <IP OF SWITCH> -v<SNMP version> -c<COMMUNITY STRING>

If that doesn't work with your switch, then snmp probably isn't configured properly on the HP switch.

Strangely enough, is that when I check the menu of the HP Switches, I see that the community is setup to public.

Don't have any idea though why I can check my switches from NAV, or The Dude though, and not Nagios XI.

Were you able to successfully walk your switches?

I tried walking the switches, but fell off my pretty horse.

Broke my leg, and didn't get any result from the switches.

So the short answer would be: Negative, walking was attempted and didn't work out the way we wanted walking to walk out. No animals we're harmed during the attempt of walking the switches.

Even shorter answer would be: Nope, negative, nada. walking no good.

Well then that means that SNMP isn't properly configured on those switches the credentials you have are bad, can you make sure you have the proper credentials and version of SNMP being used?

The funny thing is this:

I have this extraordinarily funny program called The Dude. I have entered all Switch information there. And when I check, it's either public or another SNMP community.

When I check the switches, they act like bitches, and tell me to f***k off.

No they don't. They give me the exact SNMP-info which I need.

But when I enter that exact information into Nagios XI, I don't get the expected result. And that brings tears in my eyes. Almost.

Any ideas on what to try next?
