Naming convention

We currently use Common Language Location Identifier (CLLI) codes for network elements. Total over kill and in my opinion "silly" for our organization. So, I'm thinking of switching to something more simplistic. I'd like to hear about what you're doing for Hosts/Services naming conventions.

Is naming the hosts / services similar to their logical host names an option, or are you trying to change your ENTIRE infrastructure as a whole (not just Nagios)?
