Nagios Host Check Interval Time Adjustment

Post by martin09 »

Hi, i know that the standard host check interval time is 5 minutes for most nagios configuration, however may i ask if what could be the effect if I lessen the interval time?, lets say 3 minutes or less?.. what could be its bearing?...will it be consuming more bandwidth on our network?. or it does other effect that will not be good in the system. Thanks in advance for your reply.

By lessening the interval time you will increase the amount of resources it will use, by changing it to 3 minutes you'll be using ALMOST double. While it may not be much on a small scale, it will have a great impact on a large scale.

Yes, it will use more bandwidth.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I adjusted some servers to 3 minutes interval while other servers and services to 1 minute. I limit the changes to only critical servers we need to monitor thoroughly just to make sure that it will not have a large impact also on our network. Thanks again!.
