Exceeding license limits

Post by Rachef »

Nagios Log Server is stating: You have exceeded your license limits. Upgrade Your License or Enter your new license key.

License Information
License Type: Free - Purchase a license and receive support and upgrade benefits!
Number of Data Instances: 1
Current Data Instances: 1
License Instance Usage: 1 / 1
7 Day Data Average: 507.28 MB / 500.00 MB

Can Nagios Log Server just drop everything above 500 MB so I don't hit the license limit and only have a very brief history?

I don't believe it currently has that ability, and I'm not entirely sure it ever will. The limit is there to allow those with smaller environments to use the tool for free, and those who need more bandwidth can purchase a licensed version. The 500MB is also averaged over 7 days, so it's not easy to say what should trip that limit or how that behavior should be defined.

Hi, I currently only have 5 hosts configured and the limit is reached. :?
But now I cannot reach the dashboard due to license limit so can't find out what's wrong and make modifications to get it under 500MB.

So that's why I was looking for an option to automatically clear records or something similar. :P

You cannot reach the dashboard, as that is one of the key restrictions on the unlicensed version, you can however reach the admin area and look at the indexes over the last 7 days to see and possibly delete a large one

It isn't the amount of hosts that matters, it's how much log data they send. As you've sent in 3.5G+ data in a 7 day period, it averages out to 500M a day.

To bring this down, you could turn off the agent on one of your systems, which should help to bring down that average.

I was not aware you could close an index and then access the dashboard again.
I did this so I could find out what's causing the issue, fixed it and all working again.

I have no issue paying for the full version, but would like to wait until I reach 10+ hosts :-)

Thanks for the intel!

Glad to hear you got that taken care of. Is there anything else you need assistance with, or should we close this post?
