We are currently running nagios XI version 5.2.0 on RHEL 5.11. I would like to migrate the Nagios XI server to RHEL 7.2
I have found the following document and wanted to confirm that it is the latest and recommended method to accomplish this task.
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf
Would you recommend upgrading to the 5.2.7 version prior to the migration?
If so what are the typical pitfalls if any with the migration? ("Things to Consider" section in particular)
Thank You
Mike
Rhel5 to Rhel7 upgrade/migration
Re: Rhel5 to Rhel7 upgrade/migration
Yes, definitely. Do the following:Would you recommend upgrading to the 5.2.7 version prior to the migration?
1. Upgrade your old Nagios XI server to the latest (5.2.7), and back it us by following the document below:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf
2. Install Nagios XI 5.2.7 on the new server.
3. Move the backup you made in step 1 from the old to the new server.
4. Restore from the backup that you just transferred following the same document (step 1)
Don't remove the old sever before you are absolutely sure that the new one is functioning properly.
Are you changing the architecture (i.e. 32- to 64-bit)?If so what are the typical pitfalls if any with the migration? ("Things to Consider" section in particular)

no architecture change
Re: Rhel5 to Rhel7 upgrade/migration
In this case, you should be able to migrate your XI instance just fine. To be honest, I haven't tried migrating from RHEL 5 to RHEL 7 but I just tested migration from CentOS 5 to CentOS 7, and didn't have any issues. Again, if you get stuck - let us know. We will help you with the migration. Thank you!
