how to rename server

is there a way to rename the server without creating a major impact

I can rename the server, but I want to know what application changes I need to make. in other words what configurations files I need to update in the Nagios Log server

If you just want to rename the hostname that should be fine. Make sure you update the agents that are sending the logs to NLS to have the correct information, and any firewall rules you may need to! There are also a couple of options under Administration > General > Global Settings you're going to want to upgrade. Wouldn't be a bad idea to take a VM snapshot either.
