Unable to schedule downtime (again)

Post by WillemDH »

Hello,

We were again experiencing issues when trying to schedule downtime. Acknowledgments also didn't work.. XI server is on 5.2.7.. :(

Please advice how to prevent and solve this without having to reboot the server. My current troubleshooting steps:

- Restarting xinetd => Didn't help
- Rebooting the server => Did help

There were no duplicate nagios processes.

Thanks.

It is hard to determine what caused the issue without getting more information. Are you talking about scheduling "one time" downtime or recurring downtime? Were you logged in as nagiosadmin or another user? What kind of user (security settings, local or AD/LDAP user, etc.)? What is the date format that is being used (user's & system-wide settings)? Did you see any error messages? Screenshots? Any errors in logs?
- Rebooting the server => Did help
Did you try restarting nagios prior to rebooting the server? Have you noticed any issues AFTER rebooting the server? Can you schedule downtime successfully now or you are still having issues?

One-time
Were you logged in as nagiosadmin or another user?
Multiple users reported the issue to me. I also checked and confirmed the issue.
What kind of user (security settings, local or AD/LDAP user, etc.)?
All AD users
What is the date format that is being used (user's & system-wide settings)?
yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss
Did you try restarting nagios prior to rebooting the server?
I did an apply configuration between the first report and last test before reboot.
Can you schedule downtime successfully now or you are still having issues?
Yes I can schedule downtime again.
Did you see any error messages?
Had no time to check.

It would be nice to at least know immediately when this happens. Maybe some sort of check which puts a dummy host in downtime, waits 5 seconds and then checks if the host is in downtime?

I fixed an issue similar to this not too long ago, and it was because of different upper/lower case under the 'Edit' field per user compared to the nagios.cfg.

Can you attach a screenshot of the 'edit user' page for one of the LDAP users that isn't working, and a copy of your nagios.cfg?
