Patching on Nagios server

Post by HAL »

Hi,
We have Linux server dedicated for Nagios. The current version of server is : Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Release 6.3 with kernel 2.6.32-279.e16.x86_64.
We are planning to install patches on server after which the version of server will be 6.8.0.5.e16 with kernel 2.6.32-642.1.1.e16
Please guide if the upgraded server version will be compatible for Nagios installed in it. The version of Nagios installed is 2012R1.0

Thanks in advance.

You should first update that old version of Nagios you have running - there have been 50+ releases of XI since 2012R1.0. If not, then there will most likely be problems after the patches are installed and a fix may not be possible.

Since the current Nagios XI version is so old, it would be most efficient if you spun up a new server and installed the latest (5.2.8) version of XI on it. Then, take the config from 2012R1.0 and run it through the config prep tool, then import into 5.2.8 (another big reason for this method is that is that under the hood, 2012 was running Core 3 where on 5.2.8 it is running Core 4 and there are significant differences between them)
