Need help with EMC/SAN monitoring

Post by cwscribner »

Hi all.

I've been tasked with monitoring some EMC/SAN devices. Unfortunately I have zero experience or knowledge of them. I've already succesfully uploaded the EMC monitoring wizard and gotten all the required parts. I've tested the plugin on an EMC SAN and successfully gotten data back. I'm at the point where I'd like to monitor the EMC HBAs but I'm not quite sure what to do with the data I have.

I have several entries that look like this.

------------Server Name---------------------------IP------------------------Group------
myserver.supersecretdomain.org------192.168.10.2------------group02----

SP-Port---Logged In--Registered-----Initiator Type
A-4------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
B-4------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
A-6------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
B-6------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
B-5------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
A-5------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
B-7------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open
A-7------------Yes-------------Yes----------CLARiiON Open

I'm trying to figure out how to apply this to the monitoring wizard HBA section. I think that it looks something like this:
Client Name: myserver.supersecretdomain.org
# of Paths: 8
Monitoring via: SPA & SPB

Here's what I don't understand. Assuming I'm correct in my previous example, there are several servers on the list that have 16+ paths which the wizard doesn't allow me to account for. Also, there are more than 8 HBAs (the wizard limit) which I'm not able to account for. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

If you get in a jam on this, you could try PMing Box293, he actually wrote that wizard, and unfortunately we don't have that hardware to test on....

I'll commicate with cwscribner directly and then report back here once we've come up with a solution.
