Post by djcomber »

Hi,

Does NNA support nbar?

Looking to provide application based network stats.

Regards

Currently unsupported at the moment. However, the next release of NNA (no set release date as of now) should be able read flows which have extra nbar data, but to be honest, I have no idea of what the reporting side will look like as of now. i.e canned reports for specific applications, etc

OK thanks, application based analysis is now essential for our business.

As for reports, canned I don't really mind if nothing is out, to be able to query in the query windows is essential and builld custom reports by selecting the values from nbar is good enough.

These days it's not good enough to just say "hey your network is slow due to x and y links/routes/subnets being flooded" we need to be able to pin point an app and what is is doing to the network. what it did yesterday vs today.

"Hey that upgrade to SAP you rolled out yesterday cause a link saturation for 12hrs, lucky it completed by 6am, but today we are seeing 20% increase in traffic at these locations just for SAP alone."

I hear you loud and clear! I think the following excerpt from the NBAR Wikipedia page is one of the coolest things I've read about a router feature:
Used in conjunction with other features, it may then program the internal ASICs to handle this flow appropriately.
Oh no big deal, just going to reprogram some lightning-fast purpose-built logic gate arrays on-the-fly to adapt to your specific applications based on deep packet analysis. I love technology :)

At any rate, keep an eye on NNA for a bit. It's going through some pretty big changes in the not-too-distant future.

I think early next year is a likely timeframe.
As of May 25th, 2018, all communications with Nagios Enterprises and its employees are covered under our new Privacy Policy.
