How to monitor non-EMC SANs

Post by cwscribner »

Hi all.

My client has some SAN devices by Cisco and VNX. I haven't found anything concrete on how to monitor them in terms of plugins/wizards. Is my next step to find MIBs for these devices or am I missing a resource somewhere?

Yeah we don't have any real suggestions other than to do some hunting on exchange.nagios.org for some existing plugins. A lot of people contribute hardware specific plugins, so maybe there's something out there. Otherwise, do any other users have suggestions on this one?

So I FINALLY got this sort of figured out.

Dreading the possibility of having to rewrite the check_emc plugin to monitor VNX, I decided to attempt the EMC wizard one last time. And...it worked! I think the problem with my first run through is that I was putting the device in a hostgroup that inherited one-size-fits-all config files so everything in that host group would get the same services. On this last attempt, I didn't include the VNX device in the hostgroup and allowed its own config files to be generated. This seems to have fixed the problem.
