Hello,
Question 1 - If I have multiple Windows servers and would like them to have the same monitoring services, should I
1. create a host group
2. create service templates
3. in each service template, "Manage Hostgroups" to assign the host group created in 1
4. add all my servers to the host group created in 1
Question 2 - when I added a new Windows server as a host, and in "Manage Templates" on the Host management / Common Settings page, I assigned a host template. Shouldn't the new host inherit all the settings from that host template, such as "check command" and arguments? It didn't work that way.
Thanks!

questions about templates
Re: questions about templates
You will actually want to create services, and not service templates. Assign the services to the hostgroup, and not a specific host. You'll also want to create a host template, and assign it to the hostgroup. Then, whenever you add a new host, all you need to do is assign the host template. Alternatively, you could assign a template AND a host group, but this helps lessen the steps by 1.
Yes, it will inherit all of the arguments and check_command defined in the service that is assigned to the hostgroup.
I wrote a document about exactly this topic. I'll PM it to you as it's not official yet -- let us know if you have further questions.

Doh! My brain saw someone's join date accidentally as the last post date. Sorry. At any rate, it's on the radar again, at least.
