Change Tracking / more detailed audit log

Post by IMTECH »

Hi,

do you know any possibility to integrate a change tracking into Nagios XI?

We have the need to document changes to the configuration with a ticket# directly in Nagios XI (ie. Ticket#123, old_value=0, new_value=1, free text).

Another option we saw for this would be the audit log, but there are way too less details and also no possibility to comment on entries.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
Gerhard

From the 'Service Status Detail' page, for a specific service, you should be able to use the 'Add comment' button.

Another possibility is adding a note under the CCM Page. Navigate to Configure -> Core Config Manager -> Click 'Services' -> Find a service and edit it -> Click 'Misc Settings' tab, you'll now see a 'Notes' part.

Are either of those what you're looking for?

Thanks for the hint with the Notes-field - is this not used by any other component?
Its not exactly what we were after, but it may be a workaround for what we try to achieve.

I just wonder if noone else is using a more professional way of tracking their changes?

Kind regards,
Gerhard

FYI, I just added a new feature request for adding a "Notes" column to the "Audit Log":
NEW TASK ID 9177 created - Nagios XI Feature Request: Nagios XI - Add "Notes" column to the Audit log

I am not sure if it will make it to the Nagios XI 5.3.0 however, the audit log will be more "user-friendly" (with improved verbosity).

For the time being, you can find the description of the commands that still show up in the log as "ID=xxx" in the "/usr/local/nagiosxi/html/includes/constants.inc.php" file (under the "COMMANDS" section).

Hope this helps.

Thank you - will look forward to this changes!

This feature request is neither on tracker.nagios.com nor tracker.nagios.org .. should this be visible to me or am I just knowing the wrong bug trackers? ;-)

That's just an internal reference. It's handy if you want to check in on a specific FR or bug, but there isn't a public facing way to track it. That is something we're working on internally though :)

Is it alright if we lock this thread and mark the issue as resolved?
