You'll need VMware vSphere Server, ESX or other server capable of deploying OVF Template. There is no need to convert image, in vSphere simply click File -> Deploy OVF Template

Be sure to read the documentation linked below to get some important information before using the Nagios XI virtual machine. The notes contain information on default credentials for the machine, as well as general information you'll need to get started. https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 1456514247

...our nagios xi version with ubuntu
Did you Install XI on Ubuntu? If so this is not supported and probably explains the issues you're having.
From our Manual Install Doc for XI:
"As of the time of writing, Nagios Enterprises is only able to officially provide support for installing Nagios XI on the following Linux
distributions:
•RHEL 5 & 6 32-bit and 64-bit, and RHEL 7 (requires RHN registration)
•CentOS 5 & 6 32-bit and 64-bit, and CentOS 7"

Could you please clarify what your question is regarding Ubuntu? As our documentation mentions 5.5 I believe that's going to be required.
