Nagios XI custom Dashlets

I'm looking to write my own or modify the existing dashlets for Nagios XI.I have tried to search online and couldn't really find any real documentation on how to achieve this. Before I start trying to reverse engineer how the current ones function, is there any documentation to help me get started?
