MRTG monitoring of switches & routers

Post by lyle »

When monitoring Routers & Switches, Nagios Core documentation says "if you're monitoring bandwidth usage on your switches or routers using MRTG, you can have Nagios alert you when traffic rates exceed thresholds". Core monitors the MRTG logfile to do this, if I understand correctly.

How does XI monitor traffic? Does XI include MRTG? Or do I have to install MRTG & set it up, then XI just watches the logfile?

Thanks, and I wish I understood this area better....Lyle

The "Network Switch / Router" wizard will configure MRTG and monitor it's logs. MRTG updates every 5 minutes, and it takes 2 cycles before data will start to return.

MRTG is installed and setup for use by Nagios/Nagios XI by default.
