Host notifications during downtime

Post by Fred Kroeger »

I've set up a recurring downtime 18:45 -> 07:15 daily which according to the logs is working correctly.

However, it appears that when the host goes down during the downtime, it is triggering a Downtime End and then sending an alert

My Notification Log below shows what is happening:

What version of XI are you using?

When this happens, does the downtime flag for that host actually get removed or is it just listed this way in the Notifications tab?

NagiosXI 5.2.9
Emails are actually being sent, within a few minutes of the Downtime Showing as ended, so I am assuming that the downtime flag has been reset.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I have only observed this behaviour for Hosts setup in Recurring Downtime.

Was the host in "DOWN" state AFTER the downtime ended or it recovered WHILE in downtime? I will try to recreate the issue in house.

No the sequence is:
1) Recurring downtime starts as per normal
2) Host goes down duuring the downtime
3) Downtime ends prematurely and Notification goes out for Host down
4) Host then is active until next recurring downtime starts.

If host does not go down during the downtime, the downtime ends at the scheduled time.

Fred, I was not able to recreate the issue in XI 5.2.9. I scheduled a recurring downtime to start at 10:15am. After the downtime started, I powered down the host. The downtime ended at 10:30am (as expected), and I got only two notifications (for downtimestart/downtimeend).

Most probably we will need to move this to our email ticketing system, and do a remote in order to further troubleshoot the issue.

Send us an email at [email protected], and attach your profile. This will create a new support ticket in our email ticketing system. One of our tech support guys is in Australia (Troy Lea). He may be taking an ownership of the ticket. I am not sure when he is going to be available though - I already sent him a note, and I am waiting on his reply.
