NRPE on El Capitan

The instructions for installing NRPE on Mac OS X appear to no longer work for El Capitan. I believe it is due to Apple's removal of OpenSSL.

Is there a way to get NRPE successfully working on El Capitan?

NRPEv3 (released not too long ago) should work on El Capitan, if you follow these instructions:
