Hello XI support
What would be a proper Update process for Linux Agents and/or Nagios Plugins used in one or another installation?
Would Linux Agent (NRPE) package update include Plugins Update?
Would XI update include Plugins Update?
Thank you.
UPDATE: Nagios plugins and Linux agents?
Re: UPDATE: Nagios plugins and Linux agents?
NRPE and the Plugins are separate packages:
https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe
https://github.com/nagios-plugins/nagios-plugins
So updating one will not affect the other.
An XI update may or may not include plugin updates, depending on the XI version and whether there have even been plugin updates.

Linux Agent does include Plugins (creates same folder and files) :-\tmcdonald wrote:NRPE and the Plugins are separate packages:

- this is why I was asking
Re: UPDATE: Nagios plugins and Linux agents?
You are probably talking about the package that is included in XI in the Linux Wizard. That is a "meta" package containing both NRPE and the Plugins packages, and some supporting scripts which install them all.
In that case, this would be updated with XI and may or may not include updates to either NRPE or Plugins, again depending on the version and whether any updates have been made.

Well, this did not answer my question.tmcdonald wrote:You are probably talking about the package that is included in XI in the Linux Wizard. That is a "meta" package containing both NRPE and the Plugins packages, and some supporting scripts which install them all.

I have so many Linux servers with Linux agent installed during the past year.
Do I upgrade (install) new version of plugins or not?
Re: UPDATE: Nagios plugins and Linux agents?
You can upgrade plugins independently of the NRPE version:
You can upgrade plugins whenever you want, but the package included with XI may or may not include updates to plugins or NRPE, or both. The choice of updating is entirely up to you, so I cannot answer the question of "Do I upgrade (install) new version of plugins or not?". That is a decision you need to make.tmcdonald wrote:NRPE and the Plugins are separate packages:
