Question on raising nrpe timeout's default 10 seconds

Post by nagmoto »

I found sometimes raising from 10 seconds to 30 nrpe query timeout help to silent "socket time out after 10 seconds issue".
My question is what kind of impact will penalizing Nagios server 4.x ? If I raise timeout from 10 seconds to 60 ?

The timeout value is used to stop a plugin from running too long, it will not increase the runtime of the plugin so raising it to 60 will allow the plugin to run and now timeout at 60 seconds.
It shouldn't impact the server too much as it forks a new worker to run checks and that one will take a little longer.
