Difference between Host and Ping

Post by Icarus »

Hi,

I understood that there was no difference between the check "Host" and "Ping".
That the differences that can be detected are due to the fact that the two checks start at different time intervals.

If they have this postulate, why do I have such a difference of values on my graphs (see attachment) ?

Thanks

My apologies for being unclear. If you go into the CCM (under Configure), you should be able to get to a screen that looks something like the attached screenshot. I just want to see the actual command so it is clear we are comparing apples to apples.

That does look odd to me. Can you PM me your profile? You can download it by going to Admin > System Config > System Profile and click the Download Profile button in the top right corner.

Please update this thread after you have PMed the profile so that it shows back up on our dashboard.

UPDATE: Profile received and shared with techs.

We had a couple of techs look over this and we didn't see anything weird in the profile.

I think there are a couple of things going on:
1. Since the checks are running at different times (even if they are very close in time), the latency situation is going to be different for both.
2. The graphs are scaled differently.

If you do run into an actual performance issue, I'd point us back to this thread, but as long as you are ok with it, I think we can probably lock this thread up. What do you think?
