Autodiscovery to Monitoring help wanted

Post by c-lee »

Hello,
Using VMware demo version of XI, have tried the auto discovery wizard which seemed to work well, however when the verification program runs it fails and the error log shows :
Error: The description string for service 'TCP Port 111 (sunrpc)' on host '192.168.127.10' contains one or more illegal characters.
Based on the volume of errors I conclude it does not like the parenthesis around "(sunrpc)" . The configuration files were generated from the XI autodiscovery wizard. Shouldn't it be capable of generating a useable file?

Perhaps I missed a step. I went through and deleted all the (parens) in the "discovered systems" but the verification process must have put them back. The verification will not complete until I can get the (parens) situation fixed. What is the procedure for doing this?

Thanks
C-lee

This is a confirmed bug in the auto discovery wizard and has been fixed for the upcoming release.

In the meantime, if you remove the parentheses around the (sunrpc) it will work fine.

The bug is all related to parentheses in service descriptions.

Thank you. Do I remove the offending (parens) by directly editing the .cfg files is there a way to do it in the application. I tried removing the parents from the list I found on the autodiscovery page...but Nagios seemed to add them back when I ran the verification script.

thanks,
Carolee
