Documentation for queries, defining dashboards, etc.

Hi,
In looking over the NLS help, reading the pdf files, and looking around the user interface, it seems there's no documentation for defining queries, or dashboards. Even looking at existing queries, I don't see how to get at the info needed to use them as a model for new queries.

What am I missing?
