If you use the alias I listed above, it'll show you the space folders are taking up, not just files. and I think would help figure it out. Up to you of course :)

You may have already looked as it was suggested this morning, but what's the output of ll /usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata? Please wrap it in code blocks or attach a file

thats it! the perfdata directory is eating up all my space. is there a way where I can redirect the files to an nfs mount?

You could, but I would not advise this. The perfdata files are constantly getting used by the system for the metrics which could lead to all sorts of problems.

However, there are probably old hosts / services you may not care about anymore, with data in there. You could take this off of the machine or delete it to free up some disk space.
