More BPI questions / concerns

Post by BanditBBS »

1.) Wow is it slow for administrators when in a large environment. it needs some love to speed up the loading of config pages. It takes at least 20-30 seconds if not longer to load the screen to edit or create.

2.) Is there any method to add a host with all services on it to a BPI group? Can't seem to find a method in the GUI, but what about direct modifying the config file? Otherwise, anytime I add a service I would have to remember to go edit the BPI group. Just adds another admin step that is sure to be forgotten a few times.

3.) When trying to add URL to a map in NagVis directly, the URL gets cut off after the ?mod part of the URL. The equal sign and everything after is missing, even though it exists in the config file.

I think there was something else I wanted to ask, but can't recall and this is a good enough list :)

Please try an limit the scope to one issue per thread. It's difficult to follow a single solution in a thread that's broached several complex areas and BPI can get complex quickly.

1.) Please define large environment. Is this the size of BPI entity or your XI install?

2.) The standard methods for adding information into BPI is given in this document:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... BPI_v2.pdf
You can possibly write some tool to generate a config for you. Would you like me to file a feature request for this?

3.) Is it possible there is an escaping issue? Can you post or paste your config?

1.) 35000 services.

2.) Yeah, I've read that document, it doesn't answer the question I asked

3.) Here:

Code: Select all

About 1) We have about 22k svc'es and gave up on using BPI component 5k services ago. It's just to slow and the search box is very hard to use.

Also when a host or service is renamed or deleted, it does not automatically update resulting in a duplicate work.

Yeah, I think I'll be in the same boat...unless they rewrite and drastically speed it up like they have other portions of XI.

I just wish there was a way to just tag a host and say + all services, that'd make using it much nicer and I could manually update the config file at that point.

I have looked at the existing feature requests and most of what is discussed here is already filed against BPI. I've also inquired about the BPI roadmap and there doesn't appear to be any changes coming in the immediate future.

About the best answer I have for the short term anyway on a large install is http://my-plugin.de/wiki/projects/check ... discussion
The author has got a latency < 1s and a load around 1 with 400 servers and 25000 child checks on a single HP DL 380

Yeah, you can lock this one up for now. I think I'll do a Willem did and give up on it for now until BPI gets an overhaul. I have a low load on the server, under 5 most of the time(16 cores), but BPI is just slow.
