Email alerts

Post by kiddbios »

Hello,

We can not seem to get Nagios XI to send us alerts when something is down or generates an event. We have successfully sent test emails through the email config and when we setup a user account and ask it to send the email through it is properly generated and received. Do we need to set the notification options on the host or on each individual service? I may have overlooked it in the administrators guide, but I did not see what needs to be set and where.

Thanks,

Brad

Did you setup the Notification Preferences for the user?

I was able to enable the notifications. I was looking in the wrong spot. I assumed it was under User Management. I found where I can set the notification settings for the logged in user. After enabling the notifications the emails started coming through.

How do I set them for other users? What are the interactions between the Alert settings on the hosts and service items in the Core Manager and the Nagios XI front end?

Thanks,

Brad

You can go to Admin -> Manage Users and choose "masquerade as" button.

The alert setting on the host service determine what type and when alert can be created for any contact. If the contact is an XI user, and their Host/Service command* is set to xi_(host/service)_notification_handler then it will only send the notification if it is in the correct timeframe and if that type of notification is enabled.

It appears that I have to set the alerting rules on a per service/check basis. Is there a way to be able to set it on a per host basis? (I tried setting it only on the host, but no email alerts were generated)

Many people set up the alerts in a template and apply the template to the services that they want the alerts.
