Hosts and services are working, but no details are shown.

Post by TenTimes »

Since today (8-2-2012) I have a problem with the details of groups or hosts.
In the overview pages all the hosts are shown (these are unified) but when I try to watch the details of any given group or host, there aren't any details or a count of hosts/services.

The first time this happened was when I tried to update from NagiosXI 1.9 to version 2.0. After some digging for solutions and not finding any, I rolled back to a back-up af last night. This one worked fine, but after a restart after added a processor, the same problem came back.

I am running the virtual appliance version (in trial mode now) with CentOS 6 with NagiosXI 2011R1.9
It is running on 1 (or 2) virtual CPU's with 3 GB RAM and 10 GB HDD
It is checking about 140 hosts and about 2200 services (which is the reason for adding a CPU)

One clue (I think) is that when I want to look at the hosts and services in the mass acknowledge plugin, there is a message which says: Can't find host xml.

Normally I would show you the log file, but I forgot to copy it before rolling back, so I can only get these back by trying to recreate the issue (what I rather don't want to do :) )

Edit:
I just installed the update and everything is still ok, so the update isn't necessarily the issue. I don't dare to restart the server, but if the problem surfaces again, I will let you know.
I would like to have a sollution for this problem, because it will be restarted more later this month. This is because we are still in the testing stages for nagios.

Glad it is working for now. Yes, if you could send the logs if it does this again that would be great.

I will do that, but this Nagios server is a project for school and I have to deliver it in 2 weeks, so I hope you understand that I don't want it happening now.
If this happens later, I will get the error logs and post them here.

I had to restart the Bagios server and the problem has returned. This time applying changes on the Core config worked to remove the problems.
This time I looked into the error logs and found that every service generated a error which said that there was no check time period defined. This is strange because all the checks have check times defined if I check them in the services in the core monitoring view. I will post the error logs from the messages log so you may be able to figure out what is going wrong. There is a mention of a MySQL table error in the log so this may be the source of the problems.

In this log I just restarted the server, so you see a only the log since restarting and allmost all the services without check times are removed. (due to char limit there are also some startup items removed, see:~~)

I have also just implemented a RAMdisk for better performance, but I don't know if this has any effect on the database.

The service is running. There is also nothing new in the logs, but there are some recurring errors which are displayed after every host status list.

Code: Select all

Feb 23 08:37:26 nagios01 smbd[32140]: [2012/02/23 08:37:26.350516, 0] printing/print_cups.c:109(cups_connect)

Could these errors have something to do with my problems?

I am starting to think this may be part of the problem, how did you implement your ram disk, did you follow this?
