IOT - MQTT

I'm trying to help around with a big city IOT project to see if Nagios could be of any help. Anyone happens to have any experience with iot mqtt subscriptions and Nagios? It would be nice if this would somehow work one day like a passive service. Found nothing on the Nagios Exchange. One of the million use cases would be that for example an alert could be generated when a window which has a magnet sensor is left open.

Thanks for the link. This is definitely useful. Now the only other requirement I have is the upgraded NagVis, so we can show a plan of a building and the state of it's windows (open, closed). Looking forward to 5.5.
