Mass change what contact group receives Hostgroup alerts

Post by PhilG »

Hello:
We are using Nagios XI 5.2.7.

Due to an organizational change here, I have deleted some old Contacts, added some new Contacts, and then added the new Contacts into a couple of new Contact groups. I now wish to mass update the Host groups and/or Service groups so that when a Host and/or its affiliated Service has a Critical issue, the members of the new Contact group(s) are sent an e-mail, ex. I have created a new Contact group called "Standby" with members "x", "y", "z". I need to add this new Contact group to all Host and Services (exist in a Hostgroup called "All Hosts"), except for the select few website Hosts which are now in their own new Hostgroup called "Web" (they were removed from the "All Hosts" Hostgroup), so that the "Standby" group receives alerts only from "All Hosts" and the other new Contact group receives alerts only from "Web".

I am not sure which "CCM - Tools - Bulk Modifications" item will allow me to do this.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If I read it right, you have already created 2 Hostgroups that that are already segregated host wise so it should be fairly easy to do what you want.
What you would do is to use the Bulk Modifications tool and click on the Add Contact Groups(s) button.
Select the Contact Group and then click the "Select Hosts using Hostgroups" button and select the hostgroup.
Click the "Save Changes" button and Apply the Config.

You would do this again for the other contactgroup and hostgroup.

Now, if you do not have any contacts or contactgroups applied to the services or the hosts, then through Object Inheritance, the services will inherit the contact group that is applied to the host automatically.
If not, you would have to manually edit the services or remove the contact / contactgroups from the services for this to work.

Any questions, let us know.
