I just updated our nagios xi to the latest version this morning (2011R2.1) and shortly after we experienced higher than normal load averages.
You can see where it jumps from about 3 to 8 load average. Thanks in advance. Let me know what else you need so that we can figure this out.
CentOS 5.5
32 bit

Depending on how many checks this machine is running it could be temporary as the services catch up.
You can also look for problems in the various logs in
/usr/local/nagios/var
/usr/local/nagios/var/pnp
and in
/var/log/messages

So without me really doing anything, the load has returned to normal. I will continue to monitor this through the weekend. If the problem returns, then I'll let you know. Thanks for your help

I would guess that this was the "catchup effect" as the services were trying to process everything that got behind in the short time it was down.
