If you started with a clean system when you installed the initial XI, then uninstall, install, restore should be all you need to do.
Any modifications to a default CentOS/RHEL system such as turning on SELinux, will likely cause the install to fail. Of course, if you have someone that knows how to set SELinux policy, it can be done, but that is not something we will help you with.

A point of clarification. It's possible one version, say 5.3.x could install properly with some modification, but then 5.4.x will fail. We test against clean systems, but various command line tools such as psmisc are not going cause problems. Anything that touches Apache or MySQL are the real no-go zone, but because we can't possibly know every application that might touch Apache or MySQL, we just say "clean".
