Nagios blacklist

Post by benhank »

Guys I am SO sorry that I keep asking this, but it's a huge issue i gotta fix. I finally figured out how to phrase this question:

Can Nagios blacklist a dhcp range of ip's that it already discovered.
That means it will blacklist any devices already being monitored in, and ignore them,
ignore any new devices in the range.
=====================================================================================
If not, does anyone have any ideas how I can achieve as close to that result as possible?
Has anyone ever did an auto discovery and forget to exclude the ip range for all the desktops (doh! >.< ) in the company, and then have to clean them out?

any advice here would be a boon. THANKS!

The auto-discovery cannot "automatically" exclude IP's it already discovered, however it does have the ability for you to add in the EXCLUDE field, a list of addresses or netmasks.

For example, if you did a scan of 192.169.1.0/24 the first round, you could add this to the exclude list when doing another discovery...

I understand. Auto-discovery is a tool, but not a silver bullet...

It is really best to spend a lot of effort up-front planning your monitoring efforts, especially when working with mass tools like auto discovery and bulk host import.

The careful planning can pay off in spades in the future...
