So any version of XI can be upgraded to the latest release by following these instructions https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... nstall.pdf - that keeps it simple.

Output of sestatus -

Code: Select all

# sestatus
SELinux status: disabled
I have PM'ed /etc/sudoers and the Profile.
Have you made any modifications to the standard CentOS/RHEL install? What about XI specifically?
No modifications to CentOS.
XI - started from a fresh VM image of version 2014r1.3-64 (when that was the current version).
- using a RAMDISK as per the instructions in assets.nagios.com...
- using mod-gearman to offload some of the host/service checks.
- installed VMware tools

I will be out of the office for a couple of weeks so this thread will go quiet until I'm back.

Currently, we *test* going back to 2012. I want to be clear though that this is only for upgrades, not for migrations. Migrations follow a completely different path, and essentially you cannot migrate to anything other than the same version. That said, you can import configs.

Migration may seem like a bit of a tangent, but since you seem to be experiencing issues upgrading, I wonder if that would be the way to go for you. Essentially, set up a new VM or box and install the version you have. Run the backup script on your current version and then run the restore on the new server. Once the restore is complete you should be able to upgrade to the latest with no issues. See more at https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf

I was beginning to think about a fresh install and copying the configuration files across somehow.

I'll follow your suggestion. Backup, restore to same version on a new VM, then attempt upgrade. Sounds like it should work.

Thanks for your help.
