Hardware Recommendation

Post by jchilds »

Looking to size a new server

This is what I plan on monitoring:

150 network devices
200 cisco phones
Call manager (VM)
5-7 VM Hosts
50 servers

Dose the data base need to be on a separate server ?

Thoughts on server running:
Nagios XI with data base
Veeam
Thycotic server

looking at a HP DL 380 gen 9 or 10 128g RAM 4tb usable (1) 3.x CPU
add second CPU ?

XI is designed to be run with nothing else on the server, although you could always put it in a VM. Here are our hardware recommendations: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ements.pdf

I wouldn't worry about offloading the db now. Once you have things set up and no how many services are going to go with those hosts, then you could start a new thread about offloading the db, but once you get to 14k Hosts+Services we would not recommend having the db offloaded.
