You would need to provision them. The problem is XI needs to know when you want to start monitoring something and when to stop.

Shutting off a VM could mean you need to be notified, or it could mean there was a problem.

Do you happen to know how to reconfigure vcenter host in order to change which virtual machines to monitor or not? I think vcenter host does not see newly added or removed virtual machines. I will open another discussion if you don't.
He means there is no way XI can actually determine when something is being added or deleted automatically.
XI needs to know what it should monitor. The only way for it to know is to manually add, edit, or delete the virtual machine "hosts" or "services" in the CCM by hand.

As Scott mentioned, "Shutting off a VM that XI is monitoring could mean there was a problem. Or that you need to be notified that he VM is shutoff"
