Upgrade to CentOS 7.x?

Post by vmesquita »

Hello,

We are considering moving our Nagios Install to a fresh CentOS 7.x install. Is it recommended, or CentOS 6.x is still a better choice?

That depends on your organization's internal policy for software/servers more than anything. CentOS 6 will receive maintenance updates until November 30th, 2020. Maintenance updates cover security errata and major bugs. A tech can comment on official policy regarding Nagios XI, but if I remember right CentOS 5 was only recently considered not supported when it hit EOL in March of 2017.

That is correct. I would anticipate us supporting CentOS 6 until then. Some security scanners just look at version #s and not actual vulnerabilities (as Red Hat backports security fixes), so in that regard CentOS 7 would be better.

There are some important caveats when moving from CentOS 6 to 7, so please make sure you read through https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf in full if you end up deciding to migrate.
