Nagios XI User Rights

Post by stonkers »

Hi All, excuse me if this question is overly simple, I'm trying to help an administrator who isn't willing to ask anyone questions (even though he has paid support). I need something, as a user, that was provided in past installations of Nagios but he doesn't know how to provide. He has a large Nagios repository with many different clients that he only provides accesses to their own server alerts. So he has them broken into Host Groups of course. For my servers, I need to be able to schedule down time but not modify rules and such. Is there a way for him to provide me with the ability to schedule down time just for my host groups in Nagios XI (version 5.4.10)? Thanks!

In permissions in user management there is a permission flag "Can control all objects:" enabling this will give you what you're looking for.

Our guide on Multi-Tenancy would be a good read: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf

Also, if your company has current paid support you can email [email protected] with your email address and they will add you to the Customer group so you can post in that section and get our SLA.

Sorry, he just got back to me on my suggestion of how to add my user to schedule downtime. I said:

1. Go to User Management for the my user
2. Check the checkbox for “Can control all objects”

His reply was:

You are correct however it gives you control over all the object on the nagios server. It does not do the role base access, so it would in essence give control over all the servers in Nagios.

@stonkers,

You are probably wanting to only check the checkbox for "Can access advanced features"

Here's the article explaining User Rights in XI.
