Hi There,
I have this strange problem with one of the hosts in that I get an email alert that says problem and UP. See below
If I look under the notification history for the last 24 hours, there is no record of this alert.
Any idea as to why I would get this email sent to me.
There were alots around the same period but they were related to SQL service alerts not any hosts alerts.

Hi @ mindspring,
Please go to host management for that host and post it. I want to see if you set the stalking options to up.
The stalking options when enabled, it allows you to log changes in the output service and host checks even if the state of the host or service does not change. When stalking is enabled for a particular host or service, Nagios Core will watch that host or service very carefully and log any changes it sees in the output of check results.
nder normal circumstances, the result of a host or service check is only logged if the host or service has changed state since it was last checked. There are a few exceptions to this, but for the most part, that's the rule.
If you enable stalking for one or more states of a particular host or service, Nagios Core will log the results of the host or service check if the output from the check differs from the output from the previous check. Take the following example of eight consecutive checks of a service.
This could be a possible problem please send me the page below:

Hi there,
Thanks.
This is what I have under stalking options. My understanding is that the white means it's disabled and the grey means it's enabled.
Thanks.

Re: Alerts For Up as a Problem
Hello, @mindspring. Can you click on nagiosadmin in the top right corner? And then in left column select Notification Preferences. Do you have a host flapping or a service flapping option selected? If yes that could mean your host went into a warning or critical and came back up shortly after.
Can you upload the notifications log file from the days that this happened?
/usr/local/nagios/var/archives/
So we'll probably need log files from Monday Oct 23 and Sunday Oct 22.
And finally, can you go to /usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts/ and upload the whole cfg file that corresponds to the host that you received an alert from? You can erase any sensitive information, we just need to see the configs.
Thanks.

On another related note. I added another host and services and I am getting the same single alert for host UP. I will check if I continue to get more but the interesting thing is that these are my settings for the host

Hello, @mindspring .
In your first screenshot with host alert settings, the recovery option is selected. That means if the host goes to a warning state or down, and then goes back up Nagios will notify you. So if you don't want to receive notifications you can uncheck Recovery option.
Regarding your question as to why you receive notifications if the notification option is disabled. Click on Admin, and then System Config/ Manage Email Settings in the left column. Do you have sendmail option selected or do you have your mail configured differently?
In Core Configuration Manager click on Contacts in the left column, click on your contact, and then Alert Settings. Click on Manage Host Notification Commands. Do you have xi_host_notification_handler selected or is it something else?
The conclusion is if you're not using Sendmail or if you're using a different command for the mail, the menu above would not work for your configuration. That's normal. You can either leave it like that or change the command.
Regarding your new host, can you PM me its definition just like you did for the first host?

Thanks
I have Sendmail option selected.
Under contacts I only have notify-host-email selected, not xi_host_notification handler - what is the difference?

Re: Alerts For Up as a Problem
Also, regarding the existing host. I want recovery emails but what seems to happening is that I am getting recovery emails without down emails.
So if the host is in fact down, then I should be getting down and recovery emails and I am only getting recovery UP emails.
That makes me suspect that something else is wrong.

Re: Alerts For Up as a Problem
ok, some more clarity on my issue. This is basically what I get via email. One is problem up and the other is recovery up.
If there is a problem, shouldn't be status down with a no response?
