bulk host wizard adding blank host group

Post by sysrep »

Found a possible issue with the Bulk Host Cloning and Import wizard, seems to be similar to:-
https://support.nagios.com/forum/viewto ... rd#p223765

When cloning an entry using the Bulk Host Cloning wizard, group inheritance seems to be creating a blank host group, and adding the new clone both to the original (cloned host) group, plus a new blank (and inactive) host group, meaning the newly cloned host has two assigned groups, despite one being blank, inactive and unnamed;
you end up with a blank host group added to the group list, and two host groups listed against the cloned host, see two images below:

Same thing happens if you physically name the required hostgroup in Field3 (Field1 name/Field2 ip), or if you save a template naming the required group, and select this to use in the wizard.
If you add a server entry manually without using the Bulk Clone wizard, you only get the one (proper) group assigned.
Happening on two servers, with XI v5.4.6 and v5.3.1.
Only way around it is to remove the extra group membership, and delete the blank group afterwards, however creating another cloned host simply creates another blank group, so it is repeating all over again.

Seems very similar to the blank parent host issue linked above?

Hello @sysrep,

Just to be sure, is the wizard up to date?

You can check this by going to Admin --> Under system extensions click Manage Config Wizards--> Bulk Host Cloning and Import (it is now version 2.0.4)

If this is not the version you have, click check for updates, install, and rerun the wizard. If it is up to date then let me know.

Hi kyang,
FYI, updated the Bulk Host Clone wizard to v2.0.4 as suggested, (was 2.0.2 I think), seems to have rectified the problem.
Ran a few tests on each server, created new entries etc, not seeing the 2nd empty group any more added to host entries, and Naigos isn't creating the blank group any more either.
Hopefully fully resolved now, thanks.

Sounds good!

Did you have any more questions or are we okay to close this thread?

If the issue comes back again you always have the forum.
