Hi,
many users complain that they cannot see de notification settings of hosts and services when the checks use templates.
All our checks are set through templates. It would be very very usefull if the users could see wich template is associated with their check.
Or is there another way for non admin users to see what template has been attached to their check?
In 2015 ther was a "NEW TASK ID 8804 created" but we got never feedback when this would be implemented. Or is this still open?

Christian

Re: notification settings for non admin users when using tem
Hello, @CBoekhuis. That's right, that feature request wasn't approved. Historically, Nagios XI did not allow non-admin users to have any access to the CCM. And basically, giving users a partial access to one particular thing in CCM is a challenge to implement at this point. I think Nagios XI is definitely moving towards splitting user access in the CCM, and in the future, this feature would be more accomplishable.
We also haven't really received a lot of user requests for such a major change if that makes sense.

Hi , but if the user has the flag "Can(re)configure hosts and services" and "Can access advanced features"
then he can change Notification--> "send alert notification settings". Isn't that olso part op the CCM?

Re: notification settings for non admin users when using tem
It is true that authorized users can configure/re-configure hosts and services but giving them access to templates is a completely different story. A host/service template could be applied to multiple objects, so changing it would have an impact on all objects this template is added to, not only on the ones that the contact is authorized for. This is "by design". Authorized users can still add/remove contacts via "Configure->Re-configure" but won't be able to modify the templates, set by administrators.Hi , but if the user has the flag "Can(re)configure hosts and services" and "Can access advanced features"

In Nagios XI 5.5 there is going to be a more "granular" approach to user permissions but I don't think we are going to be changing the "Configure->Re-configure" functionality.

Hi ,
it's not about changing host/service templates. It's about choose a template to use on a host/service that a user is allowed to change like the the contacts.

Re: notification settings for non admin users when using tem
I think things are a bit confused here. Showing what hosts and services inherit from templates is on the roadmap. It's unlikely to be in 5.5 but probably a minor release afterwards. The feature request that you were given the tracking number of was worded in a way that did not explain the full extent of what was wanted. The change you want actually relies on a few larger changes in the system that currently don't exist. That being said, we do already have plans to show the inheritance of configuration options from templates in various places throughout the interface, it just has not been added yet, but we are working on it.

you could parse the objects.cache file, for a complete list of who is receiving notifications.
a hacky php script using a post input would do the trick.

You want users to be able to choose their own templates, not just see them, correct?CBoekhuis wrote: It's about choose a template to use on a host/service that a user is allowed to change like the the contacts.
Re: notification settings for non admin users when using tem
Yes,correct.
as admins we have made a few templates with for example one with only mail as notification, one with mail and SMS , and so on.
For each host/service we select simply the template for given department. However members of the department would like to have the possibility to change the template for different reasons like SLA changes etc. etc.
P.S. Changing the templates is only for the admins, not for the users. They may only lelect another predefined template.
