After downloading the nagio files?
Re: After downloading the nagio files?
Open your VMware Player and select Open a Virtual Machine, and then browse to the directory where those files are stored. VMware Player should recognize which file to play.
These Nagios XI tutorials might help:

All of our tutorials and documentation are currently stored here, they should provide what you need to get up and running.

Re: After downloading the nagio files?
Hello mguthrie
Many thanks for your informative reply and extensive links.
The Player opens nagiosxi and when I click on 'Play Virtual Machine', I get the following error: 'Error while powering on: The file specified is not a virtual disk'.
I am attaching as a screenshot what I can see - not sure what the Lainux is doing there as I'm on Win XP Pro.
Thanks again.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: After downloading the nagio files?
Please note that this "Just works." Try following our instructions more precisely, perhaps if you post the steps you are taking to get this error?
Re: After downloading the nagio files?
Hello mmestnik
Thanks for your post.
OK, I open VMPlayer, and click 'Open a Virtual Machine'. A dialogue box pops up, opening the directory where I have my nagio files that I have downloaded. The dialogue box is looking for .vmx files and only one is visible: nagiosxi. So, I click this to open it and the interface is showing me: Powered Off; Other Linux; Workstation 6.5-7.x virtual machine. RAM 512MB.
Then I click Play Virtual Machine and then I get that VMWare Player error pop-up: 'Error while powering on: The file specified is not a virtual disk'.
And that's it.

Re: After downloading the nagio files?
The zip file is how large? Should be 300M or so. There should be a file about that large in your unpacked folder.
Verify that the file was unzipped correctly without errors. I'm suspecting a corrupt download.
I recommend FDM, Free Download Manager, http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

Hello mmestnik
Thanks again.
Yes, it was a bad download.
I have downloaded it again and have now logged in to nagios. Just for starters, I've set it to monitor my own PC.
Many thanks for all your help.
