What do you need to know? It’s a CentOS 5.8 64 bit box running GNOME 2.16. The box isn’t doing anything but waiting to be monitored by NigosXI. This is a test box in the hopes of if we can get this working, we would then use this config or a similar config to monitor our 50 other Linux boxes.

Being new to Linux and Nagios, I would strongly suggest saving the SNMP checks until you have to use it. Despite being named Simple Network Management Protocol, SNMP is anything but simple...

I would suggest installing the XI Linux Agent in the client machine

Then the Linux Wizard if it isn't on your XI install already.

Install of the wizard is easy and can be done at
Admin -> Manage Config Wizards

Once these 2 things are done you can just run through the wizard to setup monitoring.

I did install the agent before trying just SNMP. Once I installed the agent, I was having the same problems as other users on your forum where you would get the connection refused by host error within NagiosXI. I'm happy to go through all the steps again and have you help troubleshoot this also.

I was getting similar errors as others on the forum where the agent errors out during the install, the service would not run, etc, also where the file would not have the NagiosXI IP in it, but only local host. So at least that made me feel better as I'm not the only one having these problems.

Again, I'll re-run the agent setup on the CentOS box and start a new thread. We'll see how far we get.

Thank you.

Looks like the agent didn't install correctly based on your other post, I have added help to that post.
