Hello:
So far, my new Nagios XI server, version 5.4.12, running on CentOS 7.x, was working with no issues until recently.
I ran the Windows Server Monitoring Wizard and within a few seconds received this error:
"Configuration verification failed."
I checked the recent Configuration snapshot result and it had the following:
"Reading configuration data...
Read main config file okay...
Warning: Duplicate definition found for contact 'delladmin' (config file '/usr/local/nagios/dell/config/templates/dell_contacts.cfg', starting on line 31)
Error: Could not add object property in file '/usr/local/nagios/dell/config/templates/dell_contacts.cfg' on line 32.
Error: Invalid max_check_attempts value for host 'localhost'
Error: Could not register host (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts/localhost.cfg', starting on line 16)
Error processing object config files!
"
SIDENOTE: Just as an FYI (and because of my self-aware retentiveness), I noted a typo in the next sentence:
"Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid directives and data defintions...."
Any guidance with the initial issue? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
"Configuration verification failed."

Re: "Configuration verification failed."
I suspect you need to add a template to your localhost. You could just add a max_check_attempts though. I suspect there will be more than just max_check_attempts, which is why I am suggesting adding one of the pre-built templates. Please see https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... gement.pdf for additional details.PhilG wrote: Error: Invalid max_check_attempts value for host 'localhost'
Re: "Configuration verification failed."
During the time I was waiting for a response, I did the following and got back to a stable Nagios XI state:
1). Reverted to last know good VM server snapshot.
2). Deleted the Dell OpenManage for Nagios XI Wizard within Nagios XI.
3). I did not delete the Dell OpenManage plug-ins, though, like the following - dell_check_idrac_snmp.pl and dell_check_idrac_wsman.pl
4). Noticed that the "Database Backend" service (ndo2db) was red (not running), found the following URL -
https://www.linuxincluded.com/nagios-nd ... t-running/ - and fixed the issue.
5). Ran the Windows Server Wizard, added a test Host, verified and confirmed that all was working for now.
6). Took a VM server snapshot.
Still needing to get the Dell OpenManage Wizard and associated plug-ins to work, especially for a Dell R710 that is not covered by the Dell OpenManage Plug-in for Nagios XI, even after all the pre-requisites have been installed on the server:

Suggestions?

Re: "Configuration verification failed."
As for your recent response, it seems to be a different question. Could create that in a separate forum post, that way we are not mixing two topics into one?
Are you still having configuration errors when you are applying configs?
Could we see those errors you are receiving? That would help us.
Thanks!

I went back to a point-in-time VM snapshot and reinstalled the Dell OpenManage plug-in. I had an error regarding "ndo2db" and fixed that, too.
All working fine at this point.
I'm working on a different issue with the linux-nrpe-agent install on a CentOS 7.x server. New post coming up.

Sounds good!
Since a new thread for a different issue is coming up.
If freezing this post means locking, then I can surely lock it up.
