How does the import feature handle duplicates

Post by wormfishin »

I've got 8 site running nagios core now. I'm working on implementing a single server for them all to send passive checks to.

The individual sites have an automated process to build their configs nightly.

Since they are all disjoint today they have several definitions that overlap, such as time periods and a few contact groups.

Also some of the same admins work multiple sites so they would be duplicated.

In short I'm curious what would happen with these duplicates when trying to import, would it error out and ask me to go fix the config files, or would it give me some 'auto-magical' way to ignore them on import?

***Edit***
The more I think about it, I probably should just use fusion. what do you think?

Thanks!

Using Fusion would allow you to basically leave your existing infrastructure in place and sounds like a good choice.

Just as a test, I did try to import an contacts.cfg file that contained duplicates and didn't get an error, but they were exact matches..

For items with the same "name" directive, like "host_name", or "contact_name", it will actually overwrite the entry in the database unless you select the check box to no overwrite, in which case I'm not actually sure if it just ignores it or bails out.

PS. We're working on some kickin' new features for Fusion 2012 :)

I just did the trial install of fusion(setup was insanely easy), it's nice, but I think we'd be better with the NRDP passive check setup based on our requirements.

mguthrie, it's April, what's the hold up :)

If you need a tester for those kickin' features I'm available, just sayin
