Escalations when acknowledged

Post by BanditBBS »

I'm sure I used to know the answer to this...

Are escalations processed when a problem is acknowledged? Pretty sure they are not. If no, is there a way to make escalations processed even though it is acknowledged?

Escalations are processed when a notification is supposed to go out. No notification, no escalation. Since acknowledgements disable notifications, I would imagine they would disable escalations as well. I am not aware of any option to override this, but I will ask Scott for a second opinion.

Update: Scott concurs.

For Part 2 of the question I was going to say not that I know of, but a little searching and @eloyd proposed a solution to a similar problem posted here

Yah - one thing I wish you could do is send notifications that things are still acknowledged but not fixed. You can do this externally with an API, but the dependent service trick works well, too.

Yeah, the dependent trick sounds interesting. I can also write a quick cron job and will leave the acknowledgement comment but remove the actual acknowledgement. Still considering all options. Then again, I could just schedule a page to be sent as a report every day at 8am that is limited down to the specific servicegroup.

You can close this topic up if you'd like. I'll be using one of those three methods to work around this.
