Briefly, we are engaged in establishing a system test lab for SSD storage products under development at our site. Currently, our lab contains 43 servers configured for dual boot with Windows server 2008 R2 and Linux CentOS 6.0. These servers run primarily under Linux and are used to drive I/O activity to a large number of emerging technology, SSDs. Our tests are developed with Python but we also use industry standard test software such as Iometer. This test lab and the number of servers, is growing rapidly.
We are seeking an automated means for monitoring the hardware and software content of the servers, operating parametrics such as server component temperatures, power conditions and other operating statistics which may be useful in managing our test process. The monitoring software must be capable of gathering this information under both Windows and Linux operating conditions. An essential function is version reporting for hardware driver software such as SAS and fiber channel host bus adapters.
We have installed Nagios XI and VMware Player on one of these file servers and have used the Autodiscovery function which reports 43 servers. We want to know if Nagios will meet our high level requirements as outlined.

Re: Nagios XI capabilities.
Because Nagios is very modular by design I am sure it is capable of delivering what you need, but it certainly won't be a flip the switch auto-discovery. You would need to develop custom plugins for some of the items you mentioned, however many will work with readily available plugin on the Nagios Exchange
