Email Notification Issue
Hello Team,
Good Day.
There are few servers that we configured to send an email notification to a single member but we checked and found that the alert has not been triggered to them.
We tried to send a test mail but we found that it has not been triggered from Nagios XI itself.
Can you please suggest what needs to be done.
Regards,
Keerthi Prashanth S

Re: Email Notification Issue
This could be a complicated answer. Notifications require a lot of things to be coordinated internally before they will be sent:
* The service/host has to be in the correct state
* The service/host has to be in the correct state the correct number of times in a row
* The service/host has to have a notification defined
* The notification time has to be valid within the notification period for that alert
* The recipient has to allow notification
* The recipient has to have a valid notification period for the alert
* The command that sends the notification must be valid and working
I may have missed something, but I hope you get what I'm saying - there a lot of pieces that need to be in line in order for it to work. We'll need more information about your configuration before we can help solve your problem. Did it ever work?

Thanks @eloyd!
@keerthi.seetharaman, eloyd is correct. There are many moving parts, so we will need to see your configuration in order to be able to help. Thanks!

@eloyd :
Whatever you have mentioned are all in place. My question here is when the notification to a DL is working and notifications are been sent to a team why the notification is not sent to a single member.
If we keep your conditions then the notifications should not be sent to the any other DL's also.. Right.
So please suggest what needs to be done now.

Re: Email Notification Issue
If you have a user setup with an email that is a distribution list and the user is configured to be the only receipent for a host/service, if one member of the list receive the email and others do not, you would need to see how the mail is being handled on the distribution list server because it has to have already reached that server and is out of Nagios' hands.
Re: Email Notification Issue
This is the first time you said that it was to a distribution list. If the email is being sent to the distribution list, and at least one person on the list is receiving it, then the problem is with the list, not with Nagios.keerthi.seetharaman wrote:@eloyd :

Re: Email Notification Issue
But my question is different.
In a particular DL the member is not added but we he has been added to Nagios via manage users.
So i would like to know why there is an issue with notification to a single member. And when an test is triggered it should atleast pop out or show in notifications of that particular service/host which is basically not showing.
To be more precise we can schedule a webex to clarify more.

Re: Email Notification Issue
Is this user added as a notification contact for the service you are using to test with? Does this user have notifications enabled in their User Notification preferences?keerthi.seetharaman wrote:But my question is different.
