Hosts & HostGroups

Post by pacmag »

Hi Nagios Peoples

Just to set the scene, for all of these steps I'm on the Core Config Manager.

We have hosts, that are in host groups.

If I am on the "Host Group Management" page and add a host under the "Manage Hosts" button, I can then see all hosts, that are in that Host Group.

If I then go to the "Host Management" page for host that I KNOW is in a host group, I cannot actually see from the "Manage Host Groups" button which groups this host is in. The host group is unavailable to be chosen so Nagios knows it's in this group, but it's not actually shown as assigned.

The reverse is also true. If I'm on the Host Management page and I add a host group to a host, I cannot see the host being in the Host Group from "Host Group Management" page

Can you advise why this is the case?

Thank you

Because the assignment can happen multiple ways, some choose to assign from the host config, and some choose to assign from the hostgroup config, but you cannot assign from both.

What is display is where it lives in the configuration, which is why it doesn't show as added when looking at the host config, because it is not added to the hosts config, it is added to the host groups config.
