NagVis not working - Nagios 5.5.0

Post by eevul »

Hi folks. I 2 Nagios XI servers, one is our test system that is on CentOs 7.5 and our production server is running RedHat 7.5. Last week I upgraded to Nagios 5.5.0 from 5.4.13 on our test system as I wanted to start using NagVis. The upgrade on our test system was successful and ran smooth. I liked the changes on the new version of NagVis so I wanted to upgrade my production server to the same version. I did notice that on my production server running Nagios XI 5.4.13, NagVis was not displaying any menus nor could I click on anything that was there. I believe the only option I had was "Open" but nothing happened when I clicked on it. Anyway, I proceeded to update the server to Nagios XI 5.5.0 and again the upgrade appeared to run smoothly. Everything seems to be working fine on my upgraded production server running RedHat except that NagVis still doesn't allow me to click on any of the menus. In fact, I only see the "Open" menu item but nothing appears to happen when I click on it. On my test environment, I see all the demos and I see the options when I click on the "Open". From what I can tell, everything is working as it should on my test system but my production system seems to be missing something. I've compared PHP version and read through the other posts about similar issues with NagVis but nothing seems to be missing. Both systems appear to be identical and have the same packages installed. I'm obviously overlooking something. Any thoughts?

Are you logged in as the nagiosadmin?

If not, has your user been added to NagVis with Admin rights?

Yes, I'm logged in as an admin. On both our servers we use LDAP to authenticate users. There is no difference between the two when it comes to authentication but yet it works on the test system and not the production system.

Also, we actually pay for our Nagios XI but I can't post on the Customer support Forums. Is there a way to move this request over? And how do I get access to the customer support forums?

I registered my account. Can someone please move this over to the "Customer Support" boards? I don't want to double post unless I have to :)

Thanks!

Yes that worked on the production system but we do not use this account for anything other than system administration. We use our individual accounts for everything. It works fine on our test system with our individual accounts. Is there a way to correct this in the production system?

you need to login as that user or another admin user to Nagvis, then edit the users permission
User Menu -> Manage User ->Modify User

And then give them permissions to the role you want then to see

My user is an admin on both systems. I even deleted my account and recreated as admin on the production system and I still can't see any of the NagVis menus (other than 'Open' which does nothing when I click on it).

Oh, my mistake as you meant for me to go into the NagVis user menu and not the Nagios user menu (I can see more clearly after my first cup of coffee). Anyway, as per your instructions, I gave my user administrator access and it is working now. It's strange that I didn't have to do this on the test system. Anyway, please consider this issue resolved. Thanks again for all your help and your prompt responses.
